Capacity must be available all the way to the load
Before new load, charging or generation is connected, the limiting part of the chain must be known. We combine load measurements, operating scenarios and system data to establish what is technically feasible.
An energy surplus does not mean that power is available where it is needed
Annual energy, installed rating and available capacity describe different things. The actual limit may be set by simultaneous demand, a transformer, switchgear, cabling, protection or the grid connection.
Measurements and scenarios must cover both present operation and the future state. Otherwise, an investment decision may be based on the wrong constraint.
New load or generation
Production equipment, charging, storage or local generation changes power flows and operating scenarios.
Unclear limitation
The available margin is uncertain or different parts of the system indicate different limits.
Connection or investment decision
A technical basis is required before dialogue with the grid owner or investment in reinforcement.
The capacity limit must be identified in the correct part of the system
The scope is adapted to the facility topology, planned change and the requirements that apply to the Swedish connection.
Load profile and peak demand
Measurements show when peaks occur, how long they last and which loads contribute.
- Peak magnitude and duration
- Base load
- Representative operation
Simultaneous operation
Operating sequences and coinciding loads determine whether installed ratings occur at the same time.
- Diversity
- Operating scenarios
- Load management potential
Future load, generation and storage
Scenarios include the expected duty, control strategy and interaction with existing loads.
- New production load
- Charging and storage
- Local generation
Transformers, switchgear and cables
Ratings, thermal loading, installation conditions and existing margins are assessed together.
- Thermal limits
- Equipment ratings
- Distribution paths
Protection and selectivity
Changed fault levels and load currents must remain compatible with protection settings and selectivity.
- Protection settings
- Selectivity
- Fault-level implications
Connection point and grid conditions
We prepare technical evidence for dialogue with the Swedish grid owner. The grid owner decides the connection terms.
- Connection conditions
- Required documentation
- Grid-owner dialogue
The weakest link sets the limit
Capacity is a chain from the external grid through the point of connection, transformer, switchgear and cabling to the load. A margin in one part cannot compensate for a limit in another.
The technical route may be changed operation, load management, local reinforcement or a changed grid connection. The evidence must show which route addresses the actual constraint.
Shift or sequence loads where the process permits it.
Reinforce or reconfigure the part of the facility that sets the limit.
Use verified profiles and scenarios in dialogue with the grid owner.
From measurement to a feasible connection
The assignment follows the capacity question from the current state to an evidence-based route forward.
Map and measure
We define the system boundary, future scenario and the data needed.
- Map: Topology, ratings, protection and planned changes.
- Measure: Representative load profiles, peaks and simultaneous operation.
Analyse and verify
Scenarios are compared against the constraints in each part of the chain.
- Analyse: Identify the limiting component or condition.
- Develop: Compare technically feasible alternatives.
- Verify: Confirm the margin after implementation under relevant operating conditions.
Technical evidence for investment, connection and implementation
The delivery distinguishes present measured conditions from future assumptions and states which decisions remain with the Swedish grid owner.
Depending on scope, it may include:
- Measured load profiles and peak demand
- Present and future operating scenarios
- Capacity margins by system component
- Protection and selectivity implications
- Documented assumptions and uncertainty
- Comparison of technical alternatives
- Evidence for grid-owner dialogue
- Implementation and verification plan
The capacity chain is assessed component by component so that the actual limit is visible.
Measured operation is separated from assumptions about planned equipment and control.
The capacity question is not resolved until the margin is verified
After the change, comparable measurements confirm the new demand, peak pattern and remaining margin. Continuous follow-up can be used where loads or operating conditions continue to change.
